Is it break yet?
As a kid, I remember loving the holiday season and feeling reassured that all the experiences and family gatherings came together with ease. I can’t recall my parents ever in a panic over having parties, shuttling us to family gatherings, making copious amounts of food, or buying enough gifts.
Now..
The holidays don’t feel so easy. It’s tough to figure out the whole gift thing, coordinate my calendar with my husband’s and make sure my friends and family are not neglected, bake for work pot lucks, and decorate my house. And there is still a little thing called work and self-care.
Let’s acknowledge that there’s a lot going on. There’s lack of motivation in December across the board in all kinds of professions. I shared the accompanying Twitter post because I find many of my teacher friends sharing similar posts on my Facebook and Twitter feeds. There seems to be a lack of concentration in preschool classrooms since there is a trend of increased child injuries and incidents involving teachers during this month. In Southern California, families flock to Disneyland or one of the many other amusement parks and attractions because everything is lit up beautifully for the season. Classroom sizes fluctuate since many families go on vacation and there are more flu and colds. Focus is not necessarily on the classroom.
Although, teachers get to enjoy having fun projects and events/recitals that keep their classes and themselves engaged. There’s always something exciting to create and learn!
We’ll all get through it together. I’ll be fine. We’ll be fine. I know my parents struggled putting the holidays together for us and I didn’t notice one bit. Therefore, I think those around me won’t see me as I am seeing myself, which is a mess. Though I lack motivation right now and I want to be home snuggling with my dog, the holidays will pass. I’ll enjoy the time with my community of family and friends and maybe do one or two less events so I am less overwhelmed.
Have fun this holiday season!
