First
There are first birthdays, first loves, and now, my first blog. In this inaugural blog, I won’t get too sentimental. You’re welcome. I earned my doctorate degree in educational leadership in the spring but now I find myself feeling a bit lost. Additionally, I had something of a spiritual awakening after going to a shaman for the first time in Sedona, AZ (oh look! another first!). Let’s just say, I’m reflecting hard and finding my own path to walk in the next decade — roaring 20s here we come!
Why am I blogging? Because I can contribute to those who are fairly new in their careers and/or trying to find a place to make an impact. Especially in the huge educational sector. It can feel overwhelming and lonely. I don’t think I have the answers or that my doctoral degree makes me any more qualified to give advice, but when we talk through and explore our experiences we grow together.
I am inspired. I am surrounded by experts in early childhood education, educational leadership, research, and advocacy, which drives my curiosity and need for further connection. I want to know how these wonderful friends, family members, and colleagues are able to leave such a positive mark on this world.
Have fun. I will always sign off with “Have fun.” because if it isn’t fun, why do it? I understand there are things we have to do that aren’t fun, but I like to find joy in everything I do. For example, in college I worked at the events center, where I had to clean bathrooms at all hours of the night. Now that just sounds horrible. But those were some of my best memories because my coworkers were hilarious and we laughed the whole night. In reflection, that job taught me that I can do anything if I could make it fun and surround myself with good people.
So with that, have fun!
