Triumph

Policy change is sssssllllllllllllllooooooooooooooow.

Ahem… slow.

But we finally have a win here at LACOE Head Start. In 2016, I started studying teacher workload and it’s impact in classrooms. I made a recommendation regarding child assessments and after 1 dissertation, 1 published manuscript, and 2 in-house work studies, we finally have change.

It took having leaders in our division willing to put in the hard work to create transformational change. Especially one disrupter, Ebonie Hubbard, who had to get this done. Ebonie and I presented the new child assessment system at the Head Start California - Managers and Directors Institute last week and we’ve been receiving requests for more information from Head Start programs throughout the state.

I’ll take this triumphant moment and appreciate those around me who made this possible. There are so many that I’m afraid I would leave someone out, but know that I, and Head Start teachers in CA, appreciate you!
