New Normal

I appreciate teachers!

I appreciate teachers!

I have to admit I was so-so productive during the first two months of self-isolation. Let’s just say I started this blog post on March 30th and it is now May 11th. I’ve got the daily routine going, chopped my hair off, I am meditating, journaling, running, reading, listening to podcasts and music, gardening, playing with my pets, baking, cooking, and cleaning. I have to admit there are days that are hard. Days when I am depressed or cry because of reading the loss of life and real-life hardships people are experiencing. Not to mention the political atmosphere right now. I want to ignore all the negativity but I refuse to be ignorant. These days I am trying to give myself news and social media breaks.

So humbled. I am blessed that I can do all of my work from my home computer and I haven’t skipped a beat. For my team, I was asked to compile and share pictures and videos of work at our preschools during the COVID-19 stay-at-home order. I got to see the creative ways our preschool teachers are connecting with students and how staff are keeping programs moving by meeting family needs. Here are some public links that will bring a smile to your face:

Glimpses of silver lining. Teachers are amazing and I’m glad they are finally getting recognition for their expertise and immense skill. Their job is not easy and should never be overlooked again. We must advocate for increased teacher pay. Especially preschool teacher salary. I am sure most parents are understanding right now that you can’t put preschoolers in front of a screen or give them a worksheet and expect them to self-teach. It’s a job and a highly skilled job and while administrators are planning (important, yes), teachers are doing (in the front lines!!). Teachers have a job that doesn’t slow down or rests for the next meeting or decision.
