Self-Isolation/Care

I am all about mindfulness and introspection but this forced isolation is not what I had in mind!

Loss. What is lost during this time? Lives and the potential for more lives is definitely the fear behind the pandemic. The economy is and will continue to be hit hard. The little things we take for granted too. Graduations, and other things people have worked really hard for are on the back burner as we sit and wait. It’s tough not to miss gatherings and fun and try not to be selfish.

Coping. I’m a nervous person that dwells on the little things. So this is not helping with my nerves. I actually think I’ve been having a prolonged-mini-panic attack for the past two weeks. Here are a few things I’m doing to stay calm.

  • Distance myself from social media and the news. I am informed but it has been too stressful.

  • 5 minutes of meditation in the morning

  • Tend my vegetable garden

  • Play with my bird, Raju

  • Play with my dog, Q

  • Connect with family/friends online and by text

  • Make a schedule of the work I have to do for my job

  • Walk the dog every morning (our normal routine)

  • Run (at least three times a week)

  • Reading (Little Women)

  • Watching: Star Wars: Clone Wars, The Office, Schitts Creek, Picard, and The Simpsons

  • Keep the house clean

  • Neighbors have organized a front yard happy hour (no gathering)

We’ll get through this. I know I know I know. It’s the uncertainty that is killing me. No clue how long it's going to take or the severity of its impact.

Enjoying the little moments. Trying to be productive and have fun with limited in-person interaction. I hope you and your families are safe and can find lots to smile about.
