Project

In my role, I have multiple projects and responsibilities. My priorities are constantly fluctuating, which means there is little time to focus on one thing. For the moment, I have my attention on one project and I would like to share since I find it really exciting.

Preschool to kindergarten transition - LA county workgroup. Preschool to kindergarten transition activities positively correlate to positive outcomes in children (The Effect of School-Based Kindergarten Transition Policies and Practices on Child Academic Outcomes, National Institutes of Health, 2005). The frequency and quality of transition activities vary from state-to-state, school-to-school, and even program-to-program.

Various stakeholders in Los Angeles county have formed a workgroup with the end goal of developing an LA County preschool to kindergarten transition framework. I am imagining an Avengers-type scenario where we discuss curriculum alignment and program collaboration while wearing awesome superhero outfits and flying over buildings.

My contribution. It has been wonderful working with people outside of my organization and to hone in my interview and survey skills. I am in the finishing stages of data analysis and am concentrating on making large amounts of data digestible for the workgroup. Graphs graphs graphs. This is what I do!

Much more on this project to come as we are planning to unveil the Kindergarten Transition Framework in June 2020. I have shared some resources below on Kindergarten Transition.

I would love to hear from anyone wanting to share successes and challenges around kindergarten transition.

For now, I hope you continue to have a fun-busy month!
